Life Experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease


Study Information
Purpose of Study
To get a better understanding of the life experiences of adolescents and young adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease over time. This study includes a base line and two subsequent time points with the aim to elucidate the mediating and moderating variables influencing depression and suicidal ideation in a population between the ages of 16-21 with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Benefits of Participating
The benefit of this study will be to understand what life experience variables are the most important in the predication of Inflammatory Bowel Disease patient outcomes such as disease severity, depression, and suicidal ideation across a longitudinal research design.
Compensation
Participants will be entered into a draw for an Amazon gift card upon completion of any questions in each survey in this study. Participants will be entered into a $50 Amazon gift card draw upon completion of any questions in the time 1 survey, a $100 Amazon gift card draw upon completion of any questions in the time 2 survey, and a $150 Amazon gift card draw upon completion of any questions in the time 3 survey.

Inclusions:
  1. Participants must be between the age of 16 and 21 years of age
  2. Able to read and write in English
  3. Diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)

Exclusions:
  1. Participants are suffering from a major psychiatric disorder (e.g. psychosis)
  2. Participants have a major medical condition that would interfere with their study participation (e.g. severe cardiac, pulmonary, renal, or hepatic disease)

What You'll Be Asked to Do:
Complete an online survey administered through Qualtrics (time 1 survey). The same survey 4 weeks after the baseline survey (time 2 survey) and then again, 8 weeks after the initial survey (time 3 survey).
